At the age of 17, I found myself in a lonely dark place in life. After being molested, I withdrew myself from high school and moved in with my mother in another city. The days after the molestation felt like months. I had no friends and my family relationships were broken. I felt afraid, ashamed, and lonely. One day I was home alone with no one to talk too. I went to a neighbor's house to borrow his bible. I remember lying on the floor reading the bible and from there everything turned into a snapshot of my life. Little did I know that was the day I almost committed suicide.
After leaving the DeKalb County Crisis center, my mother did all she could to help me. After weeks of counseling and several prescriptions I ran away from home. I went to 3 different schools in 2 months. Once the schools realized I was a runaway, they terminated my enrollment. I never thought I would go from being in the gifted class to a high school dropout.
Several months later I received a call from a cousin that would change my life forever.
October 2004 my cousin and I moved to Memphis, Tennessee to attend Memphis Job Corps.
Memphis Job Corps is where I found God who began to introduce me to MYSELF. I learned to forgive and love myself. I learned to trust in others and build healthy relationships. Most importantly I learned to LIVE.
Fast forward almost 12 years and I’m still here LIVING. I’m a mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I’m CONFIDENT, STRONG, MOTIVATED, LOVED, HAPPY, and ALIVE.
